Knepp Ragwort - Jacobea vulgaris
Common ragwort has had a bad reputation as a poisonous weed of paddocks, pastures and waste ground. However animals know not to eat them and the yellow flower heads are highly attractive to bees and other insects, including the daisy carpenter bee and cinnabar moth, so play an important part in our biodiversity. In fact its a home or food to over 177 different insect species. It has flourished at Knepp and this painting is one I consider most synonymous with the time and walks I have had here.
